An update and pictures of the completed junction improvement work, installation of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Taxi Park at Challenge-Felele, Idi-Odo, Ibadan. The ITS includes traffic signal control systems, traffic signs, control room and anti-finger metal security fence.
This project was commissioned by Governor Seyi Makinde on May 29, 2021.

Remarks by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Commissioning of Junction Improvements at Challenge and Felele, Ibadan
When I decided to run for governor of Oyo State, one of the things I wanted our administration to be remembered for is improving the lives of the good people of Oyo State. I knew that inasmuch as a lot can be accomplished through philanthropy and crowd sourcing of funds, the reach of such individual or collective action is limited. To affect the majority of citizens, people in power must use state funds to make life easier for the citizens. And this is what we have been doing.
This junction improvement we have done here in Challenge and Felele is just one of the several ways that our administration is keeping its promise to the people of Oyo State. Before now, we have test cypionate cycle had people endure traffic at this junction for 20- 30 minutes and even more because the road was narrower and then we had transporters taking up a whole lane.
When we say time is money, we can then quantify what 30 minutes of lateness to a project everyday can cost in real terms. So, with this improvement, we did not just have traffic lights installed to ease the traffic flow, but we have built a park for vehicles and motorbikes to transit and ease movement along this junction. Transporters and visitors can park their vehicles without hindering traffic. The road has been expanded creating even more space for vehicular movement. We also have three modern bus stops constructed for commuters.
For some people living in some other parts of the country, they may think 30 minutes traffic is not so much, but here in Oyo State, our slogan is that we will only make things better, and what we cannot make better we will not make worse.
And since our administration came into office, we have been doing our best to improve the lives of the people of Oyo State. The results are there for all to see. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics keeps showing that we are doing the right things here.
So, while some people get angry when the National Bureau of Statistics release their figures and begin to look for ways to discredit them, here in Oyo State, we look forward to the release of data because it helps us know how well we are doing compared to other states around us and also reveals what we need to tweak for even better results.
So far, we are happy with the results we are getting, and as I said in my State Broadcast earlier today, we can proudly say that we have made the lives of the people of Oyo State better than we met it 2 years ago. And come next year, we are sure that it will be even better than it was this year.
So, on this note, I hereby declare the Junction Improvements at Challenge and Felele commissioned to the glory of God and for the benefit of the good people of Oyo State.

Project description: The Mass Transit service will run regular, scheduled airconditioned, mass transit bus service between 6:00pm and 8:00 pm with a pilot that will introduce 29 Nos x 56 seater mass transit buses every 30 minutes between the terminals at Challenge and Ojoo and intermediate bus stops /shelters along 3 major arterial routes with a dedicated non-stop service between the terminals and additional services to meet the Morning and Evening trains service at the Obafemi Awolowo (Standard Gauge) Train Station at Moniya

Being a speech delivered by His Excellency Seyi Makinde, at the Commissioning of the Challenge and Ojoo Bus Terminals, Ibadan, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
I promised omi tuntun, are you experiencing omi tuntun?
Today is an exciting day, and I am delighted to be here, joined by my brother, His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki. I want to especially thank His Excellency for journeying down from Edo State to be with us on this day as we commission two of the four bus terminals that we embarked on building about two years ago.
One of the things we knew Ibadan needed when we came into office was an effective transportation system. I remember how we went round and spoke to you, the good people of Oyo State, in 2019, just after we came into office. We made a case for having to demolish some buildings around here, and I thank you for listening to us then.
We could not have accomplished any of these things without your support.
So let me stop and say, thank you, my people, e seun, adupe. Thank you for keying into this vision.
Of course, not everyone was seeing the big picture as we were. In fact, some people said the project was a misplaced priority, and they created lists of other projects that they thought we should have prioritised. Well, we knew better because, in our quest to engineer a modern Oyo State, we always relied on data, science, and logic.
The data showed that it was time to build a modern alternative to the existing transport system in Oyo State. Oyo State receives heavy traffic from all over the country. By virtue of its location, Ibadan has always been that town where travellers can layover either on their way out of the southwest or into the southwest. The data said it was time to build on that comparative advantage.
Science supported the data; Oyo State has traditionally been a nodal region, and that geographical fact was not going to change. If anything, the growth in the population of Nigeria was going to further support the need to turn our comparative advantage into a competitive advantage.
And when science and data align, logic always follows.
We knew that we needed funds to carry out some of the other projects we were embarking on. Federal allocations have been dwindling over the years. We needed reliable ways to ensure that the stateâs Internally Generated Revenue remained stable and grew enough to support further development.
So, we invested in projects that could yield returns into the state coffers, such as the rehabilitation of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, the ongoing Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hubs, and these bus terminals, which we are commissioning today.Â
These terminals are not just about boarding buses. What we have done here is build a standard bus terminal as can be obtained anywhere in the world. This is why it comes equipped with amenities that will support economic activities and tourism.
We are building a legacy.
At this point, the question some people will be asking is, how will it run? Who will be in charge? We hope it will not turn out like other government projects that will become moribund in no time. Well, we have taken some steps to ensure that this will not be the case. So, we are going the public-private-partnership route in a sustainable manner.
The commissioning of these two bus terminals at Challenge and Ojoo marks a new dawn in transport systems in Oyo State.
We are committed to redefining good governance in Oyo State. With each project we commission, we continue to raise the bar. Yes, some people say this is the bare minimum, but if we can ensure that going forward, the good people of Oyo State reject anything less, then we can rightly say, âOur job here is done.â
And on this note, I will yield the podium to my brother, the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki. After which we will commission the Ojoo Bus Terminal, and inaugurate the Omi Tuntun Mass Transit Buses. And then, take the maiden bus ride to Challenge and also commission the Modern Terminal at Challenge to the glory of God and the benefit of the good people of Oyo State.

An Update on the Nearly Completed Ojoo Bus Terminal, Ibadan
A final update and pictures of the nearly completed construction of Ojoo Bus Terminal, Ibadan. The plan of the Oyo State Government to modernise the transportation system and increase the Internally Generated Revenue of the state, led to the construction of four bus terminals in Ibadan at Challenge, Iwo Road, New Ife Road and Ojoo. The new mass transit buses procured by the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration will commence operations at the Ojoo Bus Terminal and Challenge Bus Terminals once the project is completed this Quarter Two, 2022.
An Update on the Nearly Completed Challenge Bus Terminal, Ibadan
A fifth update and pictures of the ongoing Challenge Bus Terminal, Ibadan construction. This is one of 4 bus terminals being constructed simultaneously by the Oyo State Government as part of plans to modernise the transportation system in Oyo State. The other 3 bus terminals are at Iwo Road, New Ife Road and Ojoo. The Challenge Bus Terminal is nearly complete.
